Homeless guy covers Radiohead!

So I stumbled upon this little gem while perusing the interwebs. This homeless guy named "Mustard" was on the opie and anthony show and they handed him a guitar and he gave us his version of a classic Radiohead song "Creep" check it out:

The XX

London's break out indie rock band of the year The XX might be a little too shy for the lime light. These 20 somethings from the UK had better get use to it if they keep making music this good. With emotionally driven lyrics that mingle with deep bass lines and perfectly pitchy guitar, The XX create a beautifully dark ambiance. It"s the kind of music you will listen to over and over. It is like being caught between two lovers who can see each other but can never touch again. Their amazing music has lead to some equally awesome remixes. Take a listen for yourself. I've posted some videos and tracks. Check them out and as always if you like it go buy it on itunes or in the store.

Its Christmas in this Bitch!

My boys Fake Money from the BK sent me a lil christmas song that they produced for their friends. If you're like me sometimes christmas can be stressful with all the shopping and present buying. This song put me in the Christmas mood faster then you could HO, HO, HO. Download this track and spread it around the internet....send it to all your friends that you're not going to buy anything for. It's the thought that count right!

Obie Trice

Detroit's own Obie Trice is back with a brand new album "Special Reserve". This is his first album away from Shady/Interscope. The entire album is produced by MOSS. I love the way Obie flows and so far all of the tracks I have heard are hard. This album will definitely put Obie back on the map. The album drops Dec. 15th so go out and buy the album as a last minute christmas gift for that hip hop head in the family. Check out a few tracks from the new album right here:

S&S Featured Artist: The Armed

The Armed in my opinion has to be THE best unsigned band in Detroit. My friend Grant made told me about The Armed and told me I should check them out. So I did. Everyone always talks up a local band that they know, most times I listen and soon become disappointed with the caliber of music I hear. The exact opposite happened when I went looking for The Armed. First they are giving their entire ablum away for free. You can go download it now here: http://www.thearmed.com/ . When it was finished downloading I listened to the album "These are Lights" and was blown away. Whether or not you're a fan of punk rock music, I believe anyone that is truly into music would take something away from this album. It is beautifully constructed with an in your face attitude that makes me want to punch someone in the face, but at the same time you can tell how classically trained these guys are on their instruments. The album is brilliant. Punk has never left, but this album could single handedly resurrect Detroit Punk.

Eminem gives us a Refill

I might be a little bias about Eminem being that I am from Detroit, but what this guy does with words puts him in a league all of his own. Instead of dropping the Relapse 2, Marshall pushed back a new album and gives us 7 new tracks to contemplate. I have four of the seven here for your listening pleasure. I listened and I loved. It's definitely the warm and fuzzy Em we have all grown to love as he still raps about murder, smoking weed and shoving wienersnitzel up Dr.Dre's ass.

Everything Everything

Hello fans of the blog and newbies! Sorry I have not posted in a few days. It is because of the holidays, I have been djin' alot recently and I also have not been inspired by any new music to share with you guys. Well I've finally found something of interest to me and sharing music again. Everything Everything is a band from Manchester, UK. Their name suits them well because the energetic genre allusive sound is like dance pop with twisted lyrics about everything and nothing at all. They dramatically change tempo and use the full sound of guitar, keyboard and vocal to paint a beautiful landscape of an alternate reality. It took me a few listens to truly grasp what these gents from across the Atlantic were trying to do. It's a fresh and innovative sound that I thought I would share with everyone everyone! enjoy

Millions of Brazilians

I love Detroit. I love Detroit Music. After seeing these guys play live at Northern Lights Lounge in Downtown Detroit, I was hooked. Their energy on stage is addictive. Millions of Brazilians is a band everyone needs on their ipod. For the short time this band has been around, they have built a strong fan base in the city. They are currently on tour with the Electric Six and the Gay Blades. I have posted a few new tracks from their new release and my favorite track "vermont" which is an oldie but goodie. S&S FEATURED ARTIST: A.Dd+

ADD Plus is all 808 with no heartbreak. This duo came together in North Dallas and like they say "one didn't know shit bout music and the other one did..put it together shook it up and it fizzed". One tall (Skinny Hansel) one short (Paris Pershun) these fellas evoke the spirit of Outkast and UGK mixed with a little new school like the Cool Kids and N.E.R.D . Their rhymes are dope and remind me of the good old days of hiphop. Their beats are sick and would fit in at a house party or to make the trunk rattle. I contacted Add+ through twitter after they gave me props on the blog. The mixtape "Power of the Tongue" is out now and you can take a listen to it here: http://addplus.bandcamp.com/ or check out their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/skinnyhansel

Sleigh Bells no Christmas music here!

My buddy John Loden sent me an email the other day and it was a link to this band Sleigh Bells. He has exquisite taste in music so I opened up the link and listened. Originally I though the track was not good quality because it was a little distorted, but then I realized that that is a part of their sound. This is a bedroom project by Brooklyn duo Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller( formerly of Poison the Well). Indie electro pop and crunchy as hell. Enjoy these tracks!

The Photo Atlas

I lived in Denver for two years and this was one of my favorite bands to see live. The Photo Atlas' music is an indie rock/electro/dance blend that is high energy and addictive. The guitar riffs are fantastic and the drum work is extraordinary. The guys in the band are pretty cool and down to earth. The buzz on this band is getting bigger and it won't be long until everyone knows their name. I have posted a few of their songs on the page and check out their myspace page:

The Suicide Machines

I'm going to the late night punk/ska show tonight! The Suicide Machines (formerly Jack Kevorkian and the Suicide Machines) was one of my favorite punk bands when i was 14 years old. My friend Josh was a little bit older than I was and he would take me to all of these punk shows. We scoured the city of Detroit in search of a punk shows and found them. It was a great time in my life. It was the first bit of freedom I had ever tasted and it lead me directly into the arms of music. Tonight I get to re-live a bit of my youth as the Suicide Machines are together again. Here are some of my favorite songs, even though they are all pretty good. Enjoy

Wolfmother

In a time where there is an infinite surplus of music and artist, I can easily say that Wolfmother is one of my all time favorite bands.
A band who just recently put out their second album, even after the original band broke up. How can they possibly be at the top of my list? Simple. They are just that good. Andrew Stockdale is the lead singer and only original member of the band, I'm pretty sure he is a genius. This Australian, psychedelic, hard rock band is nothing short of amazing. If you have never heard of them or just don't believe me, please let the music speak for itself. They will be in Detroit Rock City November 12th at Clutch Cargo in Pontiac. See you there!

Katy Perry is Hot & 3oh!3 knows pop music!

30h!3 is an electronic/pop group from Boulder,CO. 303 is actually Denver's area code, hence the name. They are known for their hit song "Don't Trust Me". On this track the duo collaborates with Katy Perry to bring you "Starstrukk". The boys keep it consistent with their sound, bringing in the pop princess to take this song up a notch. Their formula is simple and it works. I'm digging the track and I love Katy Perry, so for your viewing pleasure, I added the video. Enjoy

Support Local Detroit Music

When I started this blog my motivation was to bring new music, popular and local, into the spotlight. Today is that day. The first local Detroit band that I am featuring on my blog is the JAVELINS! This band holds a special place in my heart because I have been long time friends with the drummer (Matt Rickle), I have also known the bassist (Julian) since adolescence. The other (Matt) in the band I am not as familiar, but I do know that he is a tremendous guitar player. When I contacted Matt and asked him to be featured on my blog he sent over a mp3 for everyone to enjoy! They are on the indie label Suburban sprawl (www.subsprawl.com) which has some talented bands signed to its label. The Javelins put on an amazing live show and play with youthful energy! You can see them next @ the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on NOV. 12th w/ the Pop Project.

MSTRKRFT-The "Choice Notes"

Like I said in Real Detroit Weekly, here are my 5 favorite remixes by MSTRKRFT:

Steel Panther is an LA based, faux, heavy metal band. I love metal and these guys not only rock, but are hilarious.
I hear that their live shows are insane and many celebrities have actually accompanied them on stage. The play at the Key Club in Hollywood.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (A-trak remix) FIRE IN THE DISCO!!!!

FIRE IN THE DISCO!!!

A-Trak just dropped his remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Heads Will Roll .... n lemme tell tell ya SHITS FIRE! A-trak has release some pretty dope remixes over the last couple years for the likes of Kanye, Digitalism, Boys Noize, yadda yadda yadda ... but I gotta say this might be his best work. Somethings really awesome about hearing Karen O's vocals over a really funky electro beat that just puts some pop in my step (I was a big fan of the album version of this track). This is one of the dopest remixes I've heard in a minute ... do not sleep! Yaa Heard!

A very profound minute!

I was watching an interview with Mos Def and he was talking about a Black Star reunion. Black Star is one of my favorite albums of all time and I'm sure many hiphop heads will agree on the greatness of that album.
He mentioned this song by the White Stripes called "Little Room" and how that if there were every to be another Black Star album, he would not want it to be forced.
Its not everyday that one of your favorite rappers mentions one of your favorite bands, so I decided to post this video. Enjoy!

The game is sick and Juelz has the medicine!

Juelz Santana has been one of my favorite rappers for awhile now! Young and cocky as hell MC with a mic flow that is all his own. I think the only thing that affects his popularity and power status in the hip hop world is his inconsistency. That being said, the tables may be turning for Juelz with his next release. This track "Mixing up the Medicine ft Yelawolf" is NICE! Its a banger and the radio is gonna eat it up. As a Dj I look forward to dropping this into my set. Yelawolf is singing the hook, he is a crazy, tattooed up, white boy from Alabama. I'm positive you will hear more from him soon enough. For now give this track a listen and get your friday night started!

All these songs today are by women that Rock! I dedicate the play list to the balloon boy who is lost in Colorado(aka American media distracting the public with dumbshit while are men and women die around the world) . All of these ladies have different sounds and style. I'm loving pretty much all of these songs, I can't get the Ellie Goulding song out of my head. Adele has an amazing voice. Annie does the Swedish electro thing to the max and the sick remix of lollipop by the Chordettes is from Whip it! the movie, yes i was one of 3 people that saw it. Enjoy today's play list. Album Alert: Phrazes for the Young!

The Strokes lead singer Julian Casablanca is goin' at it alone. I am highly anticipating this album. I am a middle of the road Strokes fan, but i've always enjoyed the rock-n-roll style of Julian and his writing ability. The first single "11th dimension" is an interesting blend of rock/synth. "I live on/the frozen surface of a fireball" is probably my favorite lyric from the song, interesting and the most pronounced. I'm diggin' the single i'm sure 89x will be playing this in a few weeks. The album I believe comes out in November and I'm excited to see what else this frontman has come up with. Have a listen:

If Nasa blows up the Moon.....

I want to be listening to Janelle Monae! I had heard of this young lady about a year ago, but did not take the time to sit down and listen to her album. I hear so much music on a daily basis that it is hard for me to focus on particular artists. Then there are those artist that just capture me at the beginning and I hold on tight as if I discovered them myself. Well with Janelle Monae I recently heard her on the Chester French Jacques Jams Vol. 1 "endurance" on a song called "nerd girl". I fell in love with her voice. I came across a few more tracks with her on them, and decided to give her album a listen. Whoa, it was like a breath of fresh air....Her album is called Metropolis and its is a futuristic themed r&b soul funk rock... there are some points when her song is vaguely familiar, then it sound so radically different. Its a fantastic mix of old and new. If there was no music I am sure I could listen to Ms. Monae sing all day long! Here is a few tracks that I enjoy...check them out.

Theme Song for Divorce

Usher is back with a new single. I love the honesty that U-s-h-e-r has brought to his music over the years. His new single is called "papers" its standard r&b ballad. Nice beat and i'm sure the radio will eat this up. When I listen to it, I can't help but what to think that this is gonna increase the divorce rate in America, its already above 50%. Do we need a Divorce them song? Instead of working on a marriage, do you think there will be men/women out there that will be on the brink of divorce and hear this song and think to themselves "you know what, usher your right, that man is trifiling, i'm gonna leave his ass" I'm ready! hahahah Let me know what you think blogfans..... the song is not bad.

New Vampire Weekend Single

Hello Blogfans! Good Monday to you... I received an email today saying that one of my favorite bands had released a single from their up coming album. Always good news! If you have not heard of Vampire Weekend prior to reading this, that is sad. There music is pretty feel good kind of stuff. These Gents from Harvard could barely play their instruments when they formed their band and one of my friends played a show with them and he told me they were horrible live. Ha. I'm gonna guess that they have gotten over being new. By the sound of their new single, it sounds like the formula has stayed consistant. Lots of interesting percussion, I mean lots of percussion. Anything they can pound on they probably take into the studio and bang on it. The vocals are lofty and very comforting. I really loved the first album, so much so that I played it for my mom (she only listens to christian music) and she loved it. Well Horchata is the new single so check it out here first before anyone else has it and I put up two of my other favorite Vampire Weekend songs. Enjoy! Comment! Follow us on Twitter!

Music you need to know Tuesday!

The Dirty Projectors: An experimental indie band that rocks the a'cappella.
I love what these guys do. Its a blessing to the ears. I would say that it is in a genre all of its own. The pop, funk, r&b trippyness of their music is hard to classify, but at the same time listening to it puts you in a special place. Today is a pretty cloudy, lackluster day in Detroit and I find that is a perfect day to throw on a lil Dirty Projectors. David Longstreth's music is a portal to another world. I'm putting up two of my favorite tracks....The Dirty Projectors have 4 Lps and 1Ep...
If you have never heard of them and you like what you heard leave a comment...and go buy the album, this, people, is good music. Turn off your fucking radio!

If this song isn't the TRUTH...i don't what is....

You know what I love about Jay Z. He talks a big game and backs his shit up.
When he has a problem he goes out there and shows people how to fix it. Case in point, he has a problem with auto-tune and weak ass rapper that ain't sayin' nothing these days. Hip-hop (at least in its popular form) has been watered down and simplified to sell things. Anyone could write a hip hop song on the radio try it : Pick a word, preferably something that has to do with money, girls or some kind of sexual slang word, get a beat and your a rapper.
There is a reason its called the Blueprint 1, 2, and 3. This is how a rap album should sound. I mean he didn't even have to put out a whole album. If he would have just put "Empire State of Mind" and sold it as the blueprint 3 It would still change the game. I listened to this song on repeat and it seriously wishing that I lived in New York, shit I almost went out and bought a Yankee's cap! Take a listen, then listen again.....

80's future sound

When it comes to 80s music I think their is only two types of people. Those who love it (as myself) and those that don't like it at all. Personally I'm not offended when people tell me that they are not fans of 80s music, I just think they don't get it. It was the time of the one hit wonder, stupid haircuts, interesting fashion choices. Synthesizers!!! The UK and the USA were expressing themselves musically and we got to see all of its greatness on MTV! Weather you enjoy it or not, you have to know that era will always influence musical stylings for-ev-er. Today I post a few examples that do just that, grab a lil something from the 80s and put a lil 2010 funk on it. Enjoy...comment, I want to know what your thinking out there in the blogosphere.

S&S Featured Artist: My Friend Tom

My Friend Tom is an amazing acoustic duo from Denver Colorado! Kenny Lee Young (singer/guitar) and Joe Ramas are on the combining their musical prowess to bring the world what they call "acoustic flow". Their style is captivating with Kenny's smokey vocals and rhymes and Joe's sultry guitar playing. Mix up some love songs, dance ballads and a dash of hiphop and you get a tasty blend of My Friend Tom. DJ AM MIXES

DJ AM first came on my radar a few years back ... like a lot of people I was quick to dismiss him as just another B list Celeb who was ridin the coat-tails of his famous celebrity girlfriends. Boy was I wrong, I started hearing from a lotta people that he was actually a pretty dope dj. I checked him out (no homo) on youtube and was totally amazed! I had never seen a DJ who could mash it up (i know its a cliche term in the dj world) as good as he could. I then heard a mix about a year and a half ago (which I will post below) from his sunday night party in El Lay called Banana Split Sundaes . The mix was from May of 2007. Its probably the best live mix I've ever heard and if anyone has anything they think can top it pleeze send it my way. I've listened to a gazillian mixes but its the one I always go back to. I've prolly listened to it a hundred times. The mix is flawless and perfect, pretty heavy on the baltimore club (which i love and i think Scottie B whose one of the godfathers of baltimore club music was the guest dj that night) but non-the-less all over the map the way only DJ AM could do. The "aww shit he didn't just drop that song, did he?" factor is off the radar (In other words you will find yourself saying that quite a few times).

After hearing this mix, I did a little research on the man and read a few articles on him (one memorable one was from the NY times published a few years back). I was moved and amazed to hear that dude over came a lot of adversity to get where he got in the DJ world (aka the fuckin KING!). I won't ramble about it but if you interested your good to read up on him and find out his story. Its pretty amazing how famous, revered, and not to mention PAID he got doing something he LOVED. I give props to anyone who can make a living doing something they love, most aren't able to but dude took it to the max! He became a household name and was paid fat to play records around the world (sometimes upwards of $20,000 a night, from what i hear). If thats not a success story i don't know what it is. I just hope the tragic nature of his death doesn't overshadow his amazing life story.

I highly encourage everyone to listen to it. The night he died I bumped this mix at my boys house at maximum volume on repeat the entire night to pay homage to the man. Before he died it was very hard to find recorded sets of his. In the weeks since his death a bunch of people (mostly DJ's) have came out and told a lotta amazing stories and also posted a ton of mixes they recorded of him spinnin. I'll also post some links for some sites I found with a bunch of his shit. RIP AM!

Over the last few years (and especially recently), I've gotten pretty deep into figuring out and finding what samples a lot of hip hop and dance producers use in their songs. The Trammps were one of the earliest disco band and this track came off their first album, The Legendary Zing Album (1972). Of course all the heads recognize this from hate it or love it off The Game's first album Documentary produced by Cool and Dre. Also the legendary producer, J Dilla used it in his track Dilla Says Go off his album Donuts. Listen, its a pretty great track if u ask me

StrongMouth Sez: El Ten Eleven

Good day people of the blogosphere!

I am Dj StrongMouth from Detroit.  My partner (Dj Sketch) & I will be bloggin' it up.
Our intentions are to spread the music.  Music is our common ground or Love.
So we will be posting different kinds of music for your listening pleasure.  If you like what we are writting and posting, Follow us & tell a friend.

This is going to be our first official post.  The one before this was a lil test and i wanted to rant about the Video Music Awards that MTV still has even though there are hardly and videos on mtv unless you count the lil snippets between reality show. Anyways.   My good friend and old roommate from Colorado told me to check out this band El Ten Eleven.

So I did.

They are a post-rock band from LA.  I watch some vids on youtube and the dude rocks out with double-neck guitar.  Everything you hear is coming from two dudes.  I really dig what they are doing.  To get the full concept of what they do go to there website : Elteneleven.com

Here is one of their songs check it out:

MTV VMA's 2009:

Russel Brand = English Douche that shouldn't have a job.
Janet Jackson= Tribute to Michael, awesome!  Her career is still dead.
Kanye West= Motherfuckin' Genius, voice of a generation, Gayfish!  He has a problem....

Lady GaGa=Best performance of the night.  Chick is crazy, looked for a penis, didn't see one??

I don't understand how MTV can still have VMA's when they don't even play videos???
